How To Reconnect Your Instagram to Squarespace
Today, many Squarespace users got an email titled "Reconnect your Instagram site to continue using the Instagram block." If you've received this, you're going to need to reconnect Instagram to Squarespace to continue displaying it on your website. This video will guide you through that process.
Is your Squarespace Instagram block not showing new posts?
If an Instagram block on your website appears connected but isn’t refreshing, you’re not alone. However, a deeper dive into the settings might reveal another story. It might need reauthentication.
1. Go to Connected Accounts
In your Squarespace dashboard, go to Settings > Third Party Tools > Connected Accounts.
2. Reauthenticate Your Account
When you click “reauthenticate,” you should see an Instagram popup with an Allow button. Reconnect Sqsp & IG, and you’re almost there.
3. Reset the Instagram Data
After reauthentication, there's one more crucial step. In the "Third Party Tools" section, you need to click "Reset Data." This action will refresh your Instagram blocks with the latest content.
You’ll Need a Professional Instagram Account
Another important thing to note is that you'll need a business or creator Instagram account type. If you previously connected a personal account, you'll have to upgrade to be able to reconnect.
Alternative 1: Instagram Embed Code
If upgrading your IG account to a pro/brand account isn't on your agenda, you can use Instagram’s embed code in a Squarespace embed block. This allows you to embed your personal Instagram directly onto your site without using the Squarespace Instagram block.
Alternative 2: Elfsight's Instagram Widget
You could also explore using Elfsite's Instagram widget. Unlike Squarespace's straightforward display, Elfsite offers additional features like follower counts and follow buttons. Its widgets come with various customization options, including slider and grid formats, animation controls, and call-to-action buttons. Elfsite offers a free tier, but it's worth noting this version is limited by views—just 200 per month. Consider the paid options, especially with their current Black Friday sale.
Got a lot of sites?
A Squarespace employee told Circle members like myself that “if you manage a large number of sites and need to identify which ones are impacted, please contact customer support, and we’ll provide you with a list specific to your account.” I’ve contacted them, and am still awaiting my list.
Get After It
If you're satisfied with Squarespace or Instagram's own embeds, they're still available at no cost. Regardless of your choice, happy embedding - enjoy showcasing your Instagram feed on your website!
